Mkavea, Smit, Chongwe, Makwenda and Kadzanja are fresh from their participation at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships in Otopeni, Romania where Mkavea and Smit broke three and one national records, respectively.

“We are ready to compete for medals. We will do our best to return home with something in our hands,” said Mkavea, who retained 15 gold medals during the national championships in March and was named junior male sportsperson of the year in the 2024 Malawi Sport Awards.

The team’s coach Takondwa Chang’anamuno said she is confident her charges will do well in the competition.
